ABLATION
Ablation is a procedure where the female genitals are deliberately cut, injured or changed without any medical reason. This practice is usually carried out on young girls between infancy and the age of 15, most commonly after the first menstruation. There are four types of ablation. One of the most severe and harmful forms involves the total removal of the clitoris, as well as the stitching together of the labia and the vagina with only a small hole for urination and menstruation. This practice is internationally recognized as a human rights violation, and it has severe physical and psychological consequences.
HUMAN RIGHTS IN DANGER
This practice violates:
- the right to freedom & security
- the right to health
- the right to decide about one's own reproduction
- the right to childhood
- the right to life in the cases where the procedure results in death.


HOW
